Situated gravity

Paulius Šliaupa, born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1990, is a visual artist based in Belgium. He graduated from Vilnius Academy of Arts, Vilnius, Lithuania; KASK and the HISK in Ghent, Belgium. He has won the grand prize of ArtContest22, INPUT/OUTPUT 2023 and the Simultan Festival prize in 2024. Currently a resident at Fondation Fiminco in Paris (2024-2025).

Paulius Šliaupa explores the friction between culture and nature, stemming from his background with a family of geologists and his own childhood experiences. He observes humanity’s growing disconnect from the natural world, contrasting fading direct wilderness experiences with the immersive pull of digital media, and aims to bridge this divide through his art. Utilizing tools like drones for fieldwork, Šliaupa seeks to reveal perspectives beyond human senses, creating sensual narratives in various media that affirm the importance of matter and texture in an increasingly digital age.

🧶 I LOVE YOU GERTRŪDA

Gertrūda Gilytė is a Lithuanian born artist based in Berlin. She is researching how personal development and other contemporary self-soothing techniques manifest in today’s world, particularly in relation to media and the economy.

Since 2018, she has explored personal development as a performative artistic practice, critically reflecting on the culture of positivity without cynicism or character-based performance. Her primary medium is durational performance, shared mainly on Instagram and TikTok, where she has maintained a daily posting routine for five years. This consistent presence highlights the evolving nature of art’s presentation and consumption in the digital age.

Using accessible language, Gilytė bridges thoughtful critique with emotional expressiveness, making her work engaging and widely understood. Her self-improvement-based performances seek recognition in the art world while artistically embracing the positive aspects of the methods they examine. Unique within Lithuania and beyond, her work remains both relevant and timely, offering critique and fresh perspectives on art, social media, and personal growth.
