Paulius Šliaupa, born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1990, is a visual artist based in Belgium. He graduated from Vilnius Academy of Arts, Vilnius, Lithuania; KASK and the HISK in Ghent, Belgium. He has won the grand prize of ArtContest22, INPUT/OUTPUT 2023 and the Simultan Festival prize in 2024. Currently a resident at Fondation Fiminco in Paris (2024-2025).
Paulius Šliaupa explores the friction between culture and nature, stemming from his background with a family of geologists and his own childhood experiences. He observes humanity’s growing disconnect from the natural world, contrasting fading direct wilderness experiences with the immersive pull of digital media, and aims to bridge this divide through his art. Utilizing tools like drones for fieldwork, Šliaupa seeks to reveal perspectives beyond human senses, creating sensual narratives in various media that affirm the importance of matter and texture in an increasingly digital age.
