800 Portraits of the People I don’t know

Vytenis Jankūnas

New York City–based Lithuanian artist Vytenis Jankūnas works between painting and photography, turning his attention to people as they move through quotidien situations. He captures them in moments of hurry and worry, or in fleeting searches for pleasure. All this happens in the streets, very often completely unaware of the subject being a photographer. One can feel the intensity that the city lives its life through its inhabitants, amuses them, exhausts them, connects them, confuses them. Vytenis Jankūnas’ (b. 1961) recent shows and publications include a group show in MOCAK (Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow), one man shows at SLA Art Space in NYC and Prospekto Gallery in Vilnius, also a photo book called Dance with Me published by Taad Foundation.
